Dermal Fillers

Before / AfterWhat are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected just below the skin surface, directly into or adjacent to a line, wrinkle or fold. This smoothes out the treated area so in effect softens or in some cases eradicates lines.

Most dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid (HA) gels. This naturally occurring substance is present in all our body cells and attracts and holds water therefore improving the texture and plumpness of the skin.

Fillers come in different thicknesses and in general the thicker the product the more its capacity to fill and volumise.
HA fillers can also be used to outline and reshape the lips to a desired correction.

What are the side effects of dermal fillers?

As expected with any type of injection there may be some redness, mild swelling or bruising after the procedure. This will usually settle quickly in a few days.

The effects of HA fillers will last 6-12 months.

Common HA fillers you may be offered in Cosmedicare clinic are Juvederm Ultra, Restylane, Perlane, Teosyal and Belotero.

RadiesseOther types of  dermal filler include Radiesse. This long lasting (12-15 months) FDA approved and European CE certified is composed of 30% Calcuim Hydroxylapatite and 70% gel carrier. It is not extracted from animals or humans. Once injected into the skin the smooth spherical calcium HA particles form a scaffold into which your tissue grows new collagen cells. The gel carrier dissolves within a few months and the CaHA breaks down gradually and metabolises leaving only new collagen. It is used to treat deep lines between the nose and mouth, mouth corners, cheeks, chin and jawline to improve shape and contour.
